A day exploring Stanley in the Falklands. And what a glorious day! A new blog about my adventures in the Southern Ocean with @orca_web and @hxexpeditions. This time its the wonderful wildlife on and around Carcass Island, The Falklands... whales, LBJs and a super intelligent bird of prey. A weekend camping and bird ringing. Lots of young birds around in moult so looking rather scruffy! A weekend celebrating my oldests 11th birthday with family in Cornwall. Happy World Whale and Dolphin Day. Reflecting on the incredible encounters I had this March when down in the Southern Ocean with @orca_web and @hxexpeditions Imperial or Blue-eyed Shag. Such striking birds. These were nesting amongst the Black-browed Albatross on New Island, The Falklands POV You visit an amazing black-browed albatross breeding colony on New Island, The Falklands and are blown away... both literally (it was super windy) and emotionally (albatross chicks are beyond cute!) A beautiful moment between an adult black-browed albatross and its young taken on New Island, The Falklands this March. Its not just people struggling with this heat. These buff-tailed bumblebees took over our nest box earlier in the year. But the heat of the last couple of days has meant the box is too hot inside. As a result the bees have been coming out, sitting on the outside and fanning their wings in order to cool down. This behaviour is called 'bearding'.
